I have to confess to lately feeling something like a cross between Ted Simon, he who wrote Jupiter's Travels, and Steve McQueen in the Great Escape. Roaring around Charlotte, North Carolina, on one of the most ogled at motorcycle I have ever ridden on the street, the new Triumph Scrambler looks like it just got back from some sort of adventure.
Taking more than a few unsolicited short cuts and sliding the rear end into parking spaces as standard behavior, I have been forging my own path in my personal urban-jungle.

It was a midweek afternoon and I was on my way out to do an interview. The ride involved some city traffic and a blast down the freeway but instead of my agile little sportbike I'd unhesitatingly chosen the Triumph Scrambler test bike.
And found myself wondering, not for the first time: "Why is an out-of-date, under-powered, overweight, so-called off-roader with limited suspension travel and no mod cons other than an electric starter so much fun to ride?"

He filters expertly and sails to the front of every queue. Ever further behind him, in the archetypal Mafia limousine, his pursuers blaspheme and mount pavements.
