There's only one way to evaluate a commuter bike – commute on it. I've just spent two weeks with Honda's "premium" commuter, the new CB600F, and I'm even more impressed than I was after hooning around Gauteng for a day at the SA launch in November 2007.
My route to work includes some freeway riding and about 6km of total gridlock, where the only things moving faster than walking pace are the two-wheelers. Hardly the ideal setting for a high-revving 600cc four. but the Hornet proved stable, accurately steerable and, most importantly, sweet on the throttle anywhere above 3000rpm, picking up with no jerks or unpredictable power surges.
