There was a time not long ago when the middleweight sportbike class was a good place for newbies to cut their teeth. But for 2003, with quarter-miles times that would embarrass any supercar you'd care to mention, top speeds that reach upward of 160 miles per, and racetrack lap times that would scare a full-blown superbike from barely more than a decade ago, the bikes gathered here have limits that only the experienced can exploit.
Give credit to the weary-eyed engineers who have been staring at flickering CRTs and poring over reams of data.

5162 Km sono i chilometri che segna il cruscotto digitale della CBR600RR che ho avuto in prova per piu' di due mesi (complici le ferie di mezzo, e la disponibilità dell'ufficio stampa Honda), considerando che ne aveva 2200 circa quando l'ho ritirata significa che ho fatto quasi 1500 chilometri al mese.
Questi chilometri sono serviti a capire come si comporta nelle mani di un cliente finale la piccola SS di casa Honda.

Qual è la domanda che più spesso viene posta ai tester, specie se prova moto sportive? Semplice: gli appassionati vogliono sapere sempre e solo quale sia la moto migliore. Domanda suscettibile di mille risposte e quindi condizionata da diversi aspetti. In un mondo dove la passione è il propellente principale, è ben difficile fornire giudizi acritici, senza farsi prendere la mano da elementi personali come il gusto ed il piacere di guidare una moto invece che un'altra.

Mamma Honda ha sempre seguito una filosofia commerciale piuttosto singolare, visto che agli innumerevoli successi nelle competizioni di ogni tipo raramente sono seguiti modelli commerciali "estremi" che cercassero di porsi al vertice delle rispettive categorie come prestazioni sportive pure. La CBR non ha fatto eccezione, ed anche se la (lenta) evoluzione subita nel corso degli anni l'ha portata a diventare un punto di riferimento anche per la guida in pista, è innegabile che l'impostazione generale della 600 di Tokyo abbia sempre cercato un compromesso fra la ricerca esasperata delle prestazioni in circuito e la guida su strada, magari in coppia.

If one bike has dominated the supersport class over the past two decades it is the Honda CBR600. From the venerable Hurricane that swept the new AMA 600 Supersport series in 1987 to the F4i that Fabien Foret rode to the 2002 World Supersport Championship, the CBR engineers have managed to concoct the ideal mixture of streetbike versatility and race track performance for 15 years.
But the 600cc sportbike class is not what it once was. Formerly an entry-level market, the middleweights currently deliver a Roy Jones Jr.-like performance punch through their 15,000 rpm redline.

The current crop of Supersport 600cc class represents a set of sport bikes that have been involved in a perpetual conflict for the last 15 or so years. Luckily for us, this prolonged battle has seen some evolutionary changes that for some companies have meant race championships under their belt and for others, sales domination.
Honda is looking to head those particular food chains with the current rendition of the revered CBR600. A bike, Honda would like to politely remind you, has sold very well, thank you very much and a bike that won all nine races of its first season back in '87.
