It's 5:30AM in the morning and the BMW HP2 rocks to life. Throwing a leg over I'm instantly confronted with the unexpected - I'm 6"2' and man this thing is tall, I can barely flat foot it. That's not the only unexpected, this HP2 is shod in street rubber, a $2500.00 kit transforms the HP2 from being BMW's terror of the trails to the dread of sportbikes everywhere; a supermotard with miles of travel, days of lean, and the ability to straighten any paperclip road in a riot of foot down giggles.

All the hype about this new big dirt bike from BMW, the HP2, has the adventure biker set all worked up. I try not to get too excited about new bikes because I just can’t afford to, but I was really looking forward to riding the HP2. Especially since the weather was going to be perfect. As we drove up from San Francisco to Cow Mountain Recreation Area near Ukiah, the sun intermittently poked through thick clouds as the drizzle of the night before petered out. This is the kind of weather dirt bikers pray for!

The answers to that question are as individual as the people who ask it, but when it comes to motorcycle freaks, there's no doubt as to the answer. Buy bikes - lots of bikes. Big bikes, mini bikes, street bikes, dirt bikes, expensive bikes, cheap bikes, new bikes, old bikes, yada-yada-yada.
